I’d be careful with that comment. I was returning home from a mission trip last week, and sat on the plane next to an atheist. Very polite, and mostly agreed to disagree and then talked about kayaking and camping, but one of his big arguments was, “How can you worship a Trinity that committed genocide several times in the Old Testament, and now the Son in that Trinity offers redemptive love?

Just saying, the genocide comment is a big argument in atheistic circles and we have to be prepared to speak to that.

I won’t deny that atrocities have been committed in the name of God, but you can’t judge a system by it’s misuse.

For example, how many evils have been committed in the name of science? Should we abandon the pursuit of scientific advancement? What about government?

Anyone can claim to be doing “God’s work”…it’s quite another thing to actually do it.

Doug, I will continue to pray for you, Cora and the family. I know and believe that God does work all things for our good, but my feeble human mind sometimes has problems realizing that. Very good thoughts here. I had never heard it said that we are not sinners because we commit sins; but rather we sin because we are sinners. I like that. I really think you are on to something and your bible study will be awesome.
